The Balaton tourist area will be expanded with three settlements, Herend, Zirc and Kislőd, the head of the Hungarian Tourism Agency (MTÜ) said at the online meeting of the Balaton Development Council (BFT) on Friday.
33 projects in the Balaton region received a support of HuF 40 billion from EU funds and from the Operational Program for Economic Development and Innovation (Ginop). As a result of the investments, that have already been partly completed and will be finished by 2022, castles, chateaux, ecotourism facilities, health resorts and World Heritage sites were developed.
Six tourinform offices were renewed using 127 million forints, and this program is planned to continue next year. In the accommodation development tenders of the Kisfaludy program, HuF 1.7 billion were given for the development of 5,500 private accommodation establishments at Lake Balaton. In the beach development program, 85 beaches in 38 Balaton settlements could be renewed using HuF 7.17 billion, and in the fourth phase of the program announced last week, 52 beaches could receive HuF 1.5 billion for their developments until next summer.
