MOL-PE Circular Economy Science Park Nonprofit, set up by Hungarian oil and gas company MOL and the University of Pannónia (Veszprém, western Hungary), will build a 30 billion forints (EUR 82.0m) innovation and research centre in Nagykanizsa, southwest Hungary, the Ministry of Innovation and Technology said.

The project company will build the facilities on an area of 18,000 sqms in Nagykanizsa. The aim is to create world-class research and development infrastructure in Nagykanizsa and Veszprém based on the university’s knowledge base and MOL’s management and professional knowledge, the statement said. The park’s planned R&D projects focus on technologies such as circular waste management, renewable energies such as the hydrogen economy, battery reuse, and sustainable water management.

Oszkár Világi, MOL’s Executive Vice President for Innovative Businesses and Services, said it was a key pillar of MOL’s updated strategy to become a key participant in the region’s low-carbon circular economy. MOL will spend 310 billion forints over the next five years on boosting the circular economy, he added.
