The manager of the Balatonlelle Emergency Station described this behavior as simply intolerable.
Ambulance were alerted to the 50-year-old man who was pulled out of Lake Balaton by tourists on the beach in Balatonmáriafürdő on August 16th, the National Rescue Service has reported on their Facebook page.
They add that the rescue units and the ambulance helicopter unit, which arrived within minutes, immediately began providing advanced care to the man, who was no longer breathing. The specialists fought for the patient’s life for more than an hour and a half, which was watched by many people on the beach, even though they tried to hide the patient from them with blankets and bath towels.
The lifeguards tried to send the curious people away, but they couldn’t really deal with them. Several of the disaster tourists showed their complete insensitivity, taking video and photographing the rescue, but there were also those who watched the ferocious struggle for the man’s life with their children in their arms. The rescuers did everything, but unfortunately they could not save the man’s life, which many people immediately shared on social media. This behavior also took a toll on the rescuers, the head of the Balatonlelle Rescue Station described the behavior of the people on the beach as intolerable, the likes of which he had never experienced during his more than thirty-year career.
